Luke 6:36-38. Why should we not condemn another person? First,
our eyes are limited and we can only see the outside of the person. We cannot
see the person’s heart and, therefore, we cannot fully understand that person’s
circumstances and intentions, which are relevant information in the judgment
process. More often than not, we were mistaken in our judgment of others. And
second, we are sinners ourselves who need understanding, mercy and forgiveness.
Every now and then, we give in to temptations, we hurt others, we choose to be
selfish, and we fail in our obligations. Thus, it is not surprising that Jesus
in the gospel says: “Condemn not, and you will not be condemned. Forgive and
you will be forgiven.”
